About Us

Who We Are

The Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research (Global Network) is a partnership dedicated to improving maternal and child health outcomes and building health research capacity in resource-poor settings by testing cost-effective, sustainable interventions that provide guidance for the practice of evidence-based medicine. This unique collaboration includes 8 multidisciplinary research sites and a Data Coordinating Center. Scientific oversight for the Global Network comes from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which is part of the National Institutes of Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

What We Do

To improve maternal and child survival, the Global Network research focuses on high-need areas, such as preventing life-threatening obstetric complications, modifying childbirth practices, improving infant birth weight and nutrition, and reducing prematurity and complications from preterm delivery in rural and peri-urban communities. Scientists from developing countries, together with peers in the United States, lead teams that address priority research needs through randomized clinical trials and implementation research conducted in low-resource areas.
